MiZa Library Presents: A Writing Workshop - Chasing Sunsets with Maitha Al Omaira

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:

As we become more aware of our surroundings, we open ourselves up to a world of new ideas and inspiration. The workshop will explore the art of observational writing during sunset. In this workshop, we will encourage participants to step outside and take a meditative walk, allowing themselves to fully observe and connect with their surroundings. Using field notes and journaling as a starting point, we will dive into the process of developing ideas and themes that emerge from this observational experience. Participants will learn how to use their surroundings as a source of inspiration, focusing on the themes of light and shadow, and exploring how the setting sun can transform the landscape around us. The workshop will be divided into two parts: minutes before sunset and minutes after sunset. During each of these periods, participants will document the changes in their environment and their emotional response to it, practicing the art of descriptive writing.

ABOUT THE HOST:

Maitha Al Omaira is a visual artist and poet born in Abu Dhabi, UAE in 1999. Her creative practice revolves around the interplay of light, time, and nature, with a particular emphasis on poetry. Through her work, she delves into the realms of the unseen, forging new definitions that allow space for different yet captivating interpretations of life and time.
