About the event
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:
This Zine-makling workshop is for anyone who is curious about the world of zines; a form of expression in print based media. Zines are generally short, self-published works that are not made for profit. In this workshop, participants are encouraged to bring old magazines, photographs, journal entries and stickers. Participants will be working with different, sometimes unconventional, materials to organize content, design themed spreads and put together, reproduce and take home their very own self published zine. We will be focusing on the theme of public spaces in Abu Dhabi and visualizing how we imagine the past, present, and future of these spaces.
ABOUT THE HOST:
7ijra Waraqa Miqas (bedroom, paper, scissors) started in the very weird year of 2020 during quarantine. The platform’s name is derived from the word quarantine (’7ajir’). It is our interpretation of creatives with time to spare in their bedrooms, with paper and scissors. Zines are a lovely way to express our emotions, lingering thoughts, and nostalgia; free from all the limitations that come with mental exhaustion. 7ijra Waraqa Miqas aims to encourage the creation of zines in the Middle East through documenting and sharing them in a curated library. It is for anyone who seeks a creative outlet. This library of zines will be accessible for everyone to download and print. A little piece of paper from your room, to other rooms.
